New Coloured Furniture
The new coloured furniture range was developed following TDP being contacted by the manager of a care home looking for something for their courtyard garden that was being entered into the local garden in bloom competition.
The Bakewell based care home wanted something sustainable and made in eye catching colours.
On visiting the Wirksworth showroom the care home Manager felt the benches and chairs with arms were the ideal design, but our current offering didn’t provide their requirement for bright colours.
The TDP production team set about looking at the potential to use the same frame used for the Dale bench, Derwent chairs and Tea for Two, and replace the usual brown or black slats used in the back and seat sections of the furniture.
With a slight re-design, this was achievable and mock up images were created in the primary colours used in the childrens furniture so the residents and staff could choose their preferred option.
The range was aptly named Bakewell in recognition of the location of the care home where the design idea originated.
In a statement from Ann the care home Unit Manager, she says;
“The staff, residents and some of their families began to get the gardens at Gernon Manor House- Derbyshire County Council residential care home in Bakewell, ready for the garden in bloom competition that was to be judged in June/July 2017.
We began by asking the residents permission to purchase some sustainable garden furniture, made from recycled plastic.
The residents were very keen to agree to this as there was scope to have them made up in colours that appealed to the eye. It is ideal for what the residents want.
The residents all enjoyed planting up brightly coloured containers, which consisted of recycled tins from the kitchen.
Family and friends also made time to call down and plant flowers in our courtyard garden.
We have transformed the garden around the back of the home as well, to incorporate a very nice wild garden area, where some of the residents enjoy sitting quietly.
Gernon Manor hosted a summer fayre that was very well attended. The residents and families all stated that this was one of the best years that they had seen the garden looking!”
