We think they are a good quality product. TDP offers excellent service. Their products are delivered right to our door. They’re very hard-wearing. With the saltwater atmosphere, we haven’t had to do anything to them.
Canvey Island is a reclaimed island in the Thames Estuary in Essex. Back in 2015, TDP was contacted by a volunteer group, Canvey Bay Watch, to supply recycled plastic benches that would be sited at Thorney Bay.
The community group, which started in 2014, had been given permission to clean up the beach and the promenade, to make it an attractive place for visitors to enjoy. They decided once the clean-up of the beach had been completed, they would like to offer visitors somewhere to sit and enjoy the view across the bay.
Being a seafront location, it was important to purchase benches that would not be affected by the salt water. Another key factor was that the volunteer group did not want to have to regularly maintain any of the seats.
The volunteer group chose TDP’s Peak bench as being the most suitable for the promenade, because of its robust design and aesthetic appeal. Made from the equivalent of just over 51,000 recycled plastic bottle tops, this bench also ticks the boxes for its environmental credentials, reducing plastic waste that would have been destined for UK landfill, or worse, floating in the sea or on UK beaches in places like Thorney Bay. The vast majority of the benches supplied by TDP are funded by people in the area, in memory of loved ones. Canvey Bay Watch was so happy with TDP’s benches that we were also asked to supply recycled picnic tables for the beach, some of which included our disability access tables. These are great for families to enjoy a picnic at the bay. Canvey Bay Watch opted for our Springbank table design which is both attractive and sturdy, and looks great in situ.
The Canvey Bay Watch group has been delighted with the benches and picnic tables supplied by TDP, saying the low maintenance aspect of our products is particularly valuable to this team of volunteers.
TDP’s disability access picnic tables have been perfect for wheelchair users, who have told the group they often struggle to enjoy the seaside because of access issues. The group created a concrete path and TDP’s specially adapted picnic table with extended top has provided an ideal solution.
With this amount of benches, we don’t want to be painting and varnishing them. The benches are brilliant – they look like new, still. That’s the reason we went for TDP. Other wooden benches in the area are not looking good now, whereas our TDP ones still look great. If someone does sit down on them and gets mud on them, for example, a quick wipe and they are perfect again
It was a pleasure to work with Canvey Bay Watch on providing them a great solution both for promenaders to relax and take in the seaside views, before heading to the beach to enjoy a picnic on our picnic tables
The fact that a significant number of the Peak benches provided have been bought in memory of a loved one makes us very proud to be able to help people remember those who have passed on. In such a lovely setting as this, we are sure they will be used and enjoyed for many years to come.
