Riber Castle Chooses TDP’s Recycled Plastic Furniture to Transform Its Outdoor Spaces
Residents at one of Derbyshire’s most iconic landmarks, Riber Castle, are now enjoying their beautiful surroundings from recycled plastic outdoor furniture.
The castle, originally built by John Smedley in the 19th century, has been many things over the years: a private home, a school, a film location, even a zoo. After standing derelict for some time, it has since been converted into residential flats, giving the building a new lease of life. Now, with the addition of sustainable, maintenance-free outdoor furniture, its outdoor spaces are more inviting than ever.
Durable, Zero-Maintenance Furniture
The management team at Riber Castle wanted to enhance the grounds for residents by investing in long-lasting, weather-resistant garden furniture that does not rot, split, or require painting. Our recycled plastic benches, picnic tables, modular furniture and planters were the perfect fit.
Robert Wright, Riber Castle Manager, said:
“The furniture is all around Riber Castle. We have benches and tables at the front of the castle, a seating area at the entrance, and picnic tables and benches in the castle garden. Here at Riber, we really love working with such a local company. The furniture gets lots of use and brings the community together. We like that it’s so durable and that we don’t have to maintain it.”

Eco-Friendly Furniture Made from 100% Recycled Plastic
As a family-run Derbyshire manufacturer, we transforms plastic waste into strong, attractive outdoor furniture. To date, the company has prevented over 6,000 tonnes of plastic from entering landfill, waterways and oceans by turning it into long-lasting products trusted across the UK.
Installing TDP furniture at Riber Castle has already had a measurable environmental impact. The nine Wheatcroft benches alone were made using the equivalent of nearly 30,000 recycled plastic bottles.
Supporting Local Manufacturing and Sustainable Choices
Rob Barlow, Founder and Managing Director of TDP, said:
“We are delighted that our furniture is now gracing the outside spaces at Riber Castle, allowing residents to enjoy what must be some of the finest views in Derbyshire. We are proud that our benches, chairs and picnic tables have been chosen for such an iconic site, and even prouder that the team opted for a truly sustainable solution.”
The project highlights how recycled plastic outdoor furniture for residential estates, eco-friendly benches for heritage sites, and low-maintenance garden furniture for communal spaces can offer both environmental and practical benefits.
