Melrose in Bloom
Low maintenance planters in Melrose, Scotland

Most of the companies I looked at had fairly rigid designs with no flexibility, whereas TDP was able to match existing planters pretty much exactly.

Melrose in Bloom is a volunteer group which began in 2001 with six members. Over many years Melrose’s committed volunteers have met regularly each month with the aim of enhancing this pretty town in the Scottish borders. Numbers have swelled over the years and now the group boasts around 50 members. After so many years, the group had found that the town’s original wooden planters were becoming worn, so a decision was made to investigate buying new ones.
Melrose in Bloom needed a solution with very little maintenance. The feet of the old wooden planters were starting to rot and volunteers were finding they needed increasingly complex carpentry to keep them repaired. They opted for recycled plastic because it would be sustainable, provide a wood-effect look, and most importantly, it would be far easier to maintain.
Melrose in Bloom’s volunteers investigated which recycled plastic supplier to go with and we are delighted that they chose TDP for several reasons: we were competitive on price, and we were also able to match the town’s existing planters – as opposed to other companies which were not as flexible on design.
Melrose in Bloom has now been coming to TDP for planters for ten years. We are very happy to have supplied them with 57 of our Ipstone planters, plus a further 24 bespoke planters.
The group has spoken warmly of the friendly customer service received from us, which coupled with the quality of our products and bespoke designs has kept them coming back all that time.
Available in black or brown, our Ipstone Planter is a great choice for Melrose in Bloom as it perfectly showcases bedding plants, helping make outside spaces look smart and colourful.
We have been very happy to work with this volunteer group in Scotland on a long-lasting, practical, and good-looking outdoor project which is helping residents in Melrose enjoy their town. Not just that, but with every purchase of an Ipstone planter, the group has saved the equivalent of 3,535 plastic bottles from entering waterways and oceans. Or to put it another way, that saves nearly a month of the average UK home’s CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere!
What we particularly like is the fact that we don’t have to go through the annual process of taking these boxes in, storing them, drying them off thoroughly over the winter, scraping them down, washing them and repainting them every year, not to mention the amount of woodwork repairs.
