The Love Locker at Thornbridge Estate
Doing our bit to keep love alive in the local community

I was so happy that TDP wanted to be part of the project, it really lifted my spirits. When they agreed to be involved, I burst into tears!
I was so happy that TDP wanted to be part of the project, it really lifted my spirits. When they agreed to be involved, I burst into tears!
The Love Locker project at The Thornbridge Estate was born following heartache in the local community over the proposed removal of some 40,000 love locks on a bridge in Bakewell. These love locks were a sight to behold having been placed there by couples over many years.
Emma Harrison, owner of nearby Thornbridge Hall, offered her property as a new home for the love locks so they would not be lost. The plan quickly gathered speed and Emma reached out to us to see if we could provide any seating, allowing visitors to the new “love locker” the chance to sit down, reflect and admire the spectacle.
Emma was keen to source benches made from recycled plastic having purchased some outdoor furniture made from this material decades previously, which is still looking as good as new.
She approached us to see if we could help and due to the community nature of this project, we were delighted to make and donate vibrant pink and lilac Dale benches to be placed within the space. In keeping with the theme, we also engraved love locks imagery on the back of the benches to create a romantic effect.
As well as that, we also provided additional pink and lilac seating and went the extra mile by adding one final touch: a special heart shaped mount for the ‘I Found My Lock’ bell inside the café, which visitors ring when they have found their love lock.
The love locker project was officially opened on Valentine’s Day, 2025. It attracted extensive media coverage and was even featured on BBC’s The One Show!
We are very happy to have provided our seating at what is sure to become just as iconic a visitor attraction as the original love locks bridge in Bakewell.
We’re really happy with how beautiful our benches look in the heart of the love locker. The pink and lilac colours are very appropriate in this setting.
TDP was absolutely amazing. The benches they have provided are absolutely stunning and they are going to catch the eye of everybody who sees them. I wanted benches to be at the heart of the love locker project because I wanted people to be able to sit and reflect. People need to be able to sit down and really look.”
The benches and chairs provided for this project have used the equivalent of 36,966 plastic bottles, saving around the equivalent CO2 from the atmosphere as would be emitted from the average UK home over the course of ten months.
One of the benefits of working with TDP, is that the products we build and supply you with solve more than just your challenge.
They also contribute to the ongoing battle against climate and planetary change by being built out of recycled plastic… plastic that may have otherwise ended up clogging up oceans or polluting the landscape.
We’ve worked on hundreds of projects across the United Kindgom (and beyond), just like Thornbridge Estate. If you’re looking to procure long lasting and sustainable outdoor furniture for your company, then our sales team would love to talk through some options with you.
Whether it’s tables, seats and benches or something from our nature collection, we have a range of recycled plastic furniture that will be perfect, and something you only need to buy once.
